Fat transfer is a method of restoring lost volume in the face. Fat transfer is a long-established technique. This post provides information on how fat transfer works and how it compares with fillers.

Fat transfer is two procedures in one Fat transfer involves removing the fat cells from one area of the body and injecting them into another area of the body. It is also called fat grafting. The process of removing the fat from the first area is not achieved by traditional liposuction and uses a more involved technique so as not to destroy the fat cells in the body.

Fat transfer has a similar effect to fillers Like fillers, fat transfer adds volume; the transferred fat that survives can last longer, although some of the fat is reabsorbed and results vary.

Fat transfer uses your own tissue Fat transfer uses fat harvested from your own body. It is your own fat, so it behaves the same as your own fat does. If you are nervous about putting other fillers into your body, fat transfer may be an alternative to discuss with Dr Rizk.

Fat transfer and age Fat transfer may be used to add volume to the cheeks, soften wrinkles and nasolabial folds, or address hollowing under the eyes. This procedure is used by adults from their early 20s for contouring, through to their 70s and 80s for wrinkle filling – it is an alternative method to fillers that has a number of different uses.
